Questi ha finito di scrivere il salvacondotto, vi mette il sigillo, ripiega il foglio: quindi aprendo le braccia si avvicina a Tosca per avvincerla a sé)	Tosca	Yes. (senza togliere lo sguardo dal cadavere di Scarpia, va al tavolo, prende una bottiglia d'acqua e inzuppando un tovagliolo si lava le dita, poi si ravvia i capelli guardandosi allo specchio e Quindi cerca il salvacondotto sullo scrittoio; non trovandolo. Si sovviene del salvacondotto... lo cerca sullo scrittoio, ma non lo trova; lo cerca ancora, finalmente vede il salvacondotto nella mano raggrinzita di Scarpia. Solleva il braccio di Scarpia, che poi lascia cadere inerte, dopo aver tolto il salvacondotto che nasconde in petto.) E avanti a lui tremava tutta Roma! (si avvia per uscire, ma si pente, va a prendere le due candele che sono sulla mensola a sinistra e le accende al candelabro sulla tavola spegnendo poi questo. Colloca una candela accesa a destra della testa di Scarpia. Mette l'altra candela a sinistra . Cerca di nuovo intorno e vedendo un crocefisso va a staccarlo dalla parete e portandolo religiosamente si inginocchia per posarlo sul petto di Scarpia. Si alza e con grande precauzione esce, richiudendo dietro a sé la porta)	Tosca	(leaning over Scarpia's face) You die damned! You die, You die! (Scarpia remains rigid) He has died! Now he's forgiven! She places a lit Candle on the right of Scarpia's head. She puts the other candle on the left. She looks around again and seeing a crucifix she goes to detach it from the wall and carrying it religiously she kneels down to lay it down on Scarpia's chest. She rises and with great caution exits, closing the door behind her)
